چکیده

We present Robin, an attack-resilient microblogging service, designed to provide citizens of an oppressive regime, the ability to disseminate messages during periods of complete communication blackouts imposed by the government. Using a delaytolerant network comprised solely of smart-phones, messages are relayed opportunistically among citizens. Our key contribution is a novel mechanism to protect against flooding attacks and information poisoning by the adversarial government, utilizing community reputation, yet while providing strong anonymity guarantees to messages authors and attesters.

Rangzen: Circumventing Government-Imposed Communication Blackouts

A challenging problem in dissent networking is that of circumventing large-scale communication blackouts imposed by oppressive governments. Although prior work has not focused on the need for user anonymity, we contend that it is essential. Without anonymity, governments can use communication networks to track and persecute users. A key challenge for decentralized networks is that of resource a...

An Effective Attack-Resilient Kalman Filter-Based Approach for Dynamic State Estimation of Synchronous Machine

Kalman filtering has been widely considered for dynamic state estimation in smart grids. Despite its unique merits, the Kalman Filter (KF)-based dynamic state estimation can be undesirably influenced by cyber adversarial attacks that can potentially be launched against the communication links in the Cyber-Physical System (CPS). To enhance the security of KF-based state estimation, in this paper...

Resilient Control under Denial-of-Service

We investigate resilient control strategies for linear systems under Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks. By DoS attacks we mean interruptions of communication on measurement (sensor-to-controller) and control (controller-to-actuator) channels carried out by an intelligent adversary. We characterize the duration of these interruptions under which stability of the closed-loop system is preserved. Th...

Intrusion-Tolerant Dissemination in Large-Scale Systems

With the growth of the Internet and increased demand for Web Services has come a heightened need for scalable wide-area group communication systems. The need for trust in such systems and the vulnerability of such systems to attack provide motivation to develop protocols that are intrusion-tolerant and able to provide critical services even during an attack or in the presence of arbitrary fault...

Resilient-ODMRP: Resilient On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol

ODMRP (On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol) [5] [7] [1] is a popular multicast protocol for wireless ad hoc networks. The strengths of ODMRP are simplicity, high packet delivery ratio, and non-dependency on a specific unicast protocol. ODMRP floods a route request over the entire network to select a set of forwarding nodes for packet delivery. However, a single forwarding path is vulnerable to...
